AMSTERDAM (WHTC) – The Dutch artist behind the “Uniting Sun” sculpture that looms over the renamed “Unity Bridge” that connects Holland’s North Side with downtown Holland has died. Cyril Lixenberg succumbed in his Amsterdam home on Saturday morning at age 82 after a long battle with prostate cancer. His last major public appearance was this past October 30th, when he was with local officials in the dedication of his work that aims to highlight Holland’s ethnic and social diversity. Lixenberg also designed the “New Dawn Rising” discs that adorn both sides of the former River Avenue Bridge, and has created works at other West Michigan venues.
