Holland (WHTC) – After listening to the public outrage over the influx of police officer shootings in the last couple of years, the Grand Rapids Police Department are planning on equipping their force with body cameras within the next few months. The Holland-area law enforcement, however, have little interest in following down that path. The Holland Department of Public Safety revealed in a statement to local news organizations that the main issue of body cameras is the invasion of privacy for both police officers and the people committing the crimes. Local law enforcement officials will wait to see if the pilot program in Grand Rapids will prove successful before they start examining their own need for body cameras. The GRPD will begin a trial run of body cameras to 12 deputies starting in March.
