GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – A man was killed as he jumped from a moving car in Grand Rapids early Friday morning. Mlive.com reports that at around 12:39 a.m. on Friday, 34-year-old Michael O’Rourke was riding in a vehicle driven by his fiancée on Tradition Drive NE near Dean Lake Drive in Grand Rapids Township when he jumped out of the vehicle.
The vehicle had been travelling 20 mph and O’Rourke hit his head on the pavement as he tumbled out of the car. O’Rourke was taken to Butterworth Hospital, but later passed away while in intensive care. A police investigation showed that minutes before O’Rourke had jumped, he had been in an argument with a co-worker via text message.
He then told his fiancée that he needed space and jumped out of the vehicle. Foul play is not suspected in the accident, but the Kent County Police are awaiting test results on whether alcohol played a factor in O’Rourke’s death.
