PALOS HEIGHTS, IL (WHTC) – The reason why Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra is not running for reelection is now known.
Trinity Christian College, a four-year liberal arts institution in the Chicago suburb of Palos Heights, announced that the three-term Tulip City elected leader will become the school’s eighth-ever President on July 1st.
Dykstra announced last week that he was not running for reelection so that others who wished to run can file by this past Tuesday’s deadline, but he wasn’t at liberty at the time to say what his future plans were other than that they were “positive events have occurred in my family and professional life,” leading to some speculation that it may have involved moving out of the Holland area.
Besides being a member of the Holland City Council for 10 years, Dykstra was the Senior Vice President and Holland Community President of Mercantile Bank, and was a part-time instructor at Hope College. He was also a board member of his alma mater of Northwestern College of Iowa.
Dykstra will succeed Dr. Liz Rudenga, who took over on an interim basis last June when Dr. Steve Timmermans stepped down to become Executive Director of the Christian Reformed Church in North America.
