CVS Cuts Tobacco Products a Month Early

UNDATED (WHTC) -- If you normally purchase cigarettes at the local CVS, you will have to look elsewhere. The chain announced in February that tobacco products would be cut starting in October of this year, but instead they were taken out at the begining of this month. All cigars and cigarettes behind the counter have been replaced with nicotine gum and signs urging visitors to kick the habit. The removal of tobacco is part of a change in the pharmacy’s name from CVS Caremark to CVS Health, a push for the company to extend the front lines of health care. In order to combat the loss of $2 billion in revenue expected from the cutting of tobacco, all stores will have provide more health care products and walk-in clinics. Competitors Walgreens and Co. and Rite Aid Corp. still sell tobacco, but have also started offering more health care products and clinics.
