UNDATED (WHTC) - Classes get underway for most public school students along the Lakeshore and across Michigan this morning. Pupils in Holland Christian Schools and Black River Public School began their lessons last week, as they were not subject to state law mandating a post-Labor Day start. Efforts to change that legislation in Lansing so that local districts have the option of when to begin classes has not received much traction, mostly due to tourism lobbyists who claim that pre-Labor Day classes cut into family travel plans for the final weekend of the summer vacation season.
