DETROIT (WKZO) -- An aide to former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick who testified against his boss in a city hall corruption trial will avoid prison time.

Derrick Miller had faced ten years behind bars but was sentenced to one year in a halfway house Thursday after pleading guilty to bribery and tax crimes. Miller's testimony against Kilpatrick, his father Bernard Kilpatrick and contractor Bobby Ferguson helped lead to their convictions.

Kwame Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years, Bernard Kilpatrick to 15 months and Ferguson to 21 years in prison. A fourth defendant, former water department head Victor Mercado was sentenced last week to eight months in a halfway house.
