GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC) - An elaborate robbery attempt in broad daylight south of Grand Haven was foiled yesterday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant Matt Wildfong, an "elderly woman" was approached in the parking lot of the Meijer Store off of US-31 by two middle-aged women, one of which was walking with a cane, who claimed that they found a wallet near the victim's car, and asked that she follow them to the Wal-Mart across from Comstock Street, where they set up the pinch after conferring with their boss inside, who was supposedly an attorney. They asked the woman to take all of available funds from the bank in 50-dollar bills, "to check serial numbers." The victim did go to the bank and made a withdrawl, but then reconsidered and did not return to the Wal-Mart.
The suspects fled the scene without incident, and the victim was shaken but not injured. Anyone with any information on the matter is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT; http://mosotips.com).
