HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - For the second time in four days, a crash at an Ottawa County intersection led to residents being without power for a time.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff's Sergeant David VanderPloeg, 25-year-old Ryan Kirwin of Holland Township was apparently speeding his SUV eastbound on Lakewood Boulevard when he lost control near Beeline Road on Holland's North Side. Veering to avoid hitting oncoming traffic head on, his vehicle went off of the roadway and sheared off a utility pole, sending power lines across the roadway. While Kirwin was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, BPW crews had to restore electricity, and traffic was diverted for a couple of hours as a result.
On Saturday, couples from Grand Rapids and Hudsonville were hospitalized when their vehicles collided near Bauer, with the force of the collision causing a nearby pole to be sheared off, and a similar power outage ensued. Both crashes remains under investigation.
