LANSING, MI (WHTC) - Jobless rates are down along the Lakeshore, according to the latest monthly numbers from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Unemployment in April stood at five percent in Ottawa County and 6.1 percent in Allegan County, a drop of a full percentage point and eight tenths of a percentage point from March levels, respectively. A year ago, those marks stood at 5.9 and 6.6 percent. Ottawa County was third among Michigan's 83 counties in its jobless rate this April; Allegan was 11th. State officials say that most regional labor markets saw unemployment declines last month due to seasonal trends, but that employment gains have been very solid over the past year.
