GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC) - A 63-year-old Grand Haven area woman suffered critical injuries in a two-vehicle crash on US-31 south of Grand Haven last evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Austin, Jackie Bates had to be extricated from her SUV after the collision north of Buchanan Street around 5:30 PM. Bates had pulling out of a gas station lot and was attempting to cross the northbound lanes to reach an access road to southbound US-31. She pulled in front of a northbound SUV, driven by 32-year-old Jane Novak, who broadsided Bates’ vehicle, causing both vehicles to go into the median.
Bates was flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment; Novak, also from the Grand Haven area, suffered less serious injuries and was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital.
Austin added that both drivers were buckled up as the crash remains under investigation.
