UNDATED (WHTC) --
It was a slugfest this afternoon in Cleveland’s Progressive Field this afternoon, with Alex Avila hitting a solo homerun in the top of the 13th to give the Tigers the lead, 10-9 only to lose in the bottom of the 13th inning when reliever Al Alburquerque balked with the bases loaded. Final score: Indians 11, Tigers 10. Miguel Cabrera was tossed out of the game in the sixth inning by home plate umpire, Tim Timmons, for arguing a first-pitch check swing. Manager Brad Ausmus charged out of the dugout and went face to face with Timmons before heading to the clubhouse along with Cabrera. Now its home to Comerica Park where they will face the Texas Rangers in a daytime game you can hear on 1450 WHTC at 12:40 P.M.
In a hard-fought battle between two playoff contenders, the West Michigan Whitecaps lost the rubber match of a three-game series against South Bend, 3-1, in front of almost 65-hundred students this afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark. West Michigan dropped to 1.5 games behind South Bend in the Midwest League’s Eastern Division standings. Dayton is also in the mix for a first-half playoff berth, and the Whitecaps will visit the Dragons on Thursday night to open a six-game road trip. The game will be on Holland’s Hometown station at 6:50 P.M.
