DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - A Michigan meat-processing plant's recall of nearly 2,000,000 pounds of ground beef over possible E. coli contamination may be a bigger concern that first thought. Health Department officials say the chance of E. coli is always present and we should never forget there’s a risk with undercooked food so the best thing you could do for the time being is order your burgers well done.
The United State Department of Agriculture says at least eleven people in four states became ill after eating the tainted meat from the Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit. It was initially reported that the beef was shipped to Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio for restaurant use. It's now believed that meat may actually have been distributed nationwide with ABC News among those reporting that some of it may have possibly gone to grocery stores. No business names have been released.
