U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) speaks during a news conference at the Toussaint Louverture Airport in Port-au-Prince February 21, 2013.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Senator Debbie Stabenow says that Monday's charging of five Chinese military hackers is an important step forward and she commends Attorney General Eric Holder.

Stabenow, the Chairwoman of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs and Global Competitiveness, says that "We have seen time and time again where U.S. trade secrets and intellectual property have been stolen by hackers from China and other countries, which costs us jobs here at home."

Monday's indictment alleges that Chinese military officials hacked into the communications networks of U.S. businesses and the United Steelworkers Union in order to steal intellectual property and other sensitive business information.
