HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Holland’s Mayor has a new job.
By city charter, the mayor’s position, as well as that of all other city council members, is only part-time. Since becoming a councilman in 2005, and assuming the mayor’s post four years later, Kurt Dykstra had been a full-time attorney with Warner, Norcross and Judd. Last month, he left that Grand Rapids-based firm to join Mercantile Bank as senior vice president and community bank president of that financial institution’s Holland office. Bank officials say that Dykstra will be responsible for overall leadership and development at that office. In addition, Mercantile tabbed Craig Oosterhouse as vice-president and commercial lender for the Holland office.
Since becoming mayor, Dykstra has dabbled in politics, briefly considering a run for the GOP US Senate nomination last year, and is slated to be a guest presenter on WZZM-TV’s morning news program next week following the departure of Derek Francis.
