DETROIT (WKZO) -- General Motors is facing 79 lawsuits stemming from an ignition switch defect that has led to the recall of millions of vehicles. The automaker says the total damages from these suits is approximately ten-billion dollars.
Since the beginning of the month, 20 new lawsuits were filed against GM. The automaker is seeking court protection claiming they are not liable for problems that occurred prior to the 2009 bankruptcy case.
A panel of judges will decide if all lawsuits will be combined into one and which federal court would hear the case.
