UNDATED (WHTC) - Two separate accidents on Saturday that, on the surface, could have been avoidable landed a 23-year-old Zeeland Township woman and a 33-year-old Indianapolis man on hospital beds over the weekend.
The first occurred in West Olive around 4:30 AM, when deputies were called to a crash scene off of Stanton Street between 136th and 128th avenues. Jessica Kooienga was driving eastbound when she lost control of her vehicle, veered left off of the roadway and struck a tree. Rescue workers had to extricate her, and she was flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital for treatment. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, and the case will be forwarded to the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The other incident happened about nine and a half hours later in the waters of Lake Macatawa. Deputies say that friends shoved Hank Daunhauer from a dock on property off of Ottawa Beach Road near 168th Avenue in Park Township. He landed head and shoulder first into about two and a half feet of water, and complained of no feeling in his lower extremities. Daunhauer reportedly recovered some of that feeling as he was being taken to Holland Hospital for treatment.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
