HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) - An unnamed 24-year-old Holland Township man is spending the weekend in the Ottawa County Jail after apparently causing a four-vehicle pileup that hospitalized a Cadillac couple and knocked out power to over 16 thousand Consumers Energy customers on Holland’s North Side late yesterday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brent Converse, witnesses saw the motorist driving erratically eastbound on East Lakewood Boulevard before losing control near Roost Avenue, striking a curb, veering into a vehicle and striking down a utility pole. That second vehicle was shoved into a third car, which lost control and smashed into a fourth vehicle head-on, causing it to flip onto its side.
As utility crews worked to restore power and deputies controlled traffic for a couple of hours, the couple in the fourth vehicle, 58-year-old Douglas Oosterbaan and his 56-year-old wife Cynthia, were taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The at-fault motorist, who may have been under the influence, went to the Ottawa County Jail and is awaiting a Monday arraignment in Holland District Court on various charges. As for the other two drivers involved; 48-year-old Traci Bosch of Holland wasn’t hurt, while 69-year-old Jose Baltazar of Holland suffered bumps and bruises.
The crash remains under investigation.
