PAW PAW, MI (WTVB) - Someone has an issue with Rite Aid pharmacies. A caller with a foreign-accent has contacted a number of their outlets in west Michigan, claiming there is a bomb in their building, and if they don’t reload a Green Dot money card, they will trigger the bomb. It happened in Paw Paw Thursday afternoon. There have been similar extortion attempts made at Rite Aid stores in Bridgman, Kalamazoo, Hartford, Muskegon, Ludington, Grand Traverse and Greenville.
The Paw Paw store was evacuated and a State Police dog trained to sniff for bombs was able to determine it was a hoax, and the store opened two hours later. It comes just days after a Rite Aid employee was shot and killed at their pharmacy in East Lansing.
