Automakers dealing with rail car shortages

The Big Three: General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford
The Big Three: General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford

DETROIT (WKZO) -- Automakers say a shortage of railroad cars is forcing them to park newly-built cars and trucks and hurting their bottom line. The harsh winter caused a shortage of rail vehicles available to deliver new vehicles.

General Motors reports hundreds of 2015 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierra pickups are sitting in a guarded lot near the Flint Truck Assembly Plant. The shortage has hurt deliveries of Ford F-150 pickups and Ford Focus models. Chrysler Group LLC has reported delays in the shipment of RAM trucks, the Dodge Journey and Fiat 500 models built in Mexico. Analysts say the problem will likely continue through early July.
