HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - On Thursday, Model Drug Store in downtown Holland will be closing its pharmacy after 50-plus years and transferring its prescribers to the CVS store at the corner of Douglas and River avenues on Holland’s North Side. It will be the second such merger of an independent pharmacy with that particular chain outlet in about 18 months, after Dykstra Drug Store decided not to compete when CVS built its store in 2012. Owner Sharon Fisher said that insurance reimbursement rates for prescription drugs led to her decision to close Model Drug and quit being a pharmacist. The Apothecary Gift Shop already at the site will be expanded to become the sole occupant of the 8th Street store.
