Convicted cop-killer left notes before his suicide

JACKSON (WKZO) -- The Muskegon Chronicle is reporting that convicted cop killer Eric Knysz left notes behind in his cell before committing suicide on April 14th, less than a week after he was sentenced to life without parole for the shooting death of State Trooper Paul Butterfield.

The Mason County man wrote in despair that his life was over at 20, and asked for God’s forgiveness.

And then used a bed sheet and hung himself from the bars.

Knysz was in a holding cell at a transitional facility in Jackson, waiting for an assignment to another prison.

He was put on a ventilator and kept alive for three days until it was concluded that he was brain dead and his organs donated for transplant.

The letters were part of the investigation conducted by the State Corrections Department to determine how Knysz was able to hang himself.  The newspaper requested the investigation report.

Corrections officials say the letters are part of the proof that it was indeed a suicide.

Knysz was alone in a cell, with two empty cells on either side.

A gaurd had checked on him and actually spoken to him 23-minutes before he was found hanging.
