LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Supporters are calling it a good first step to fixing our roads. Yesterday the Michigan House approved a ten bill package that will shift around gas taxes, increase penalty fees for overweight trucks, and reprioritize other funding to patch roads. It also requires a warranty from construction firms for some projects.
Sponsor Jase Bolger of Marshall says it’s not what they need but it’s what is possible for now. He says if they waited until they could fund it all, they might never get it started. Democrats are calling it the 25% solution, saying it just kicks the problem down the potholed riddled road. The package now goes to the State Senate where it is expected to undergo changes.
