Tigers Win in Rookie's Debut; Hawks Fall on Road

UNDATED (WHTC) - Miguel Cabrera collected four hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs, as the Tigers beat visiting Houston last night, 11-4. Robbie Ray scattered five hits with five strikeouts in over five innings of pitching to win his major league debut, as Detroit posted its seventh straight victory. The series at Comerica Park continues this evening. Coverage on 1450 WHTC begins at 6:40 PM.

Gordon Beckham’s solo homer in the eighth inning broke a 1-1 tie, and the visiting White Sox went on to defeat the Cubs at Wrigley Field last night, 5-1. The cross-town Chicago series now switches to US Cellular Field for the next two contests, beginning this evening.

Buck Farmer tossed six innings of six-hit, six-strikeout baseball, pitching the Whitecaps past visiting Lake County last night, 3-1. West Michigan goes for the series sweep of the Captains at Fifth Third Ballpark in a late morning matinee.

Mikael Granlund scored two of Minnesota’s four third-period goals as the Wild downed the visiting Blackhawks in NHL Stanley Cup Playoff action last night, 4-0. Ilya Bryzgalov needed just 19 saves to post the shutout, but Chicago still leads the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinals, two games to one. Game four is at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Friday evening.
