OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WHTC) -- Expect to see a lot of wood smoke around Ottawa County on Monday. The Ottawa County Parks and Recreations Commission will set controlled burns at three parks in order to battle invasive species such as honeysuckle, spotted knapweed and autumn olive. The fire crews will begin at Hager Park around 11 A.M. then onto Grand River Park and finish up in the afternoon at the Upper Macatawa Natural Area. Controlled burns are a safe and cost effective way to combat invasive species. They also stimulate growth of native plants.
