HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - A 46-year-old homeless Muskegon man should consider himself fortunate to be alive today after a near-death experience in Holland this morning.
According to Public Safety Captain Jack Dykstra, the unnamed man apparently climbed into a trash dumpster outside of Parkview Apartments around 9th Street and Columbia Avenue around 9 PM last night, looking for a refuge from the rain. Around 7 this morning, a couple of blocks away from the complex, the driver of a garbage truck noticed some pounding coming from inside of the truck, shortly after running the compactor.
Rescue crews were able to get the victim out of the truck, and he was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The matter remains under investigation.
