DETROIT (WKZO) -- Veteran Detroit congressman John Conyers will have his name on the primary election ballot, although a challenge to his nominating petitions could change that.
Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett's office confirmed Wednesday that enough valid signatures for the 25-term representative were submitted by the deadline. But Reverend Horace Sheffield, who is running against Conyers, says at least two of the people who circulated those petitions were ineligible.
Sheffield questions whether the volunteers met the state requirement of being registered voters and Garrett's office has requested information from local clerks. Conyers could drop below the signature requirement if the names are invalidated.
