DETROIT (WKZO) -- Only Chicago has more high-tech jobs than Metro Detroit in the entire Midwest, according to a new study from Troy-based Automation Alley. The 2013 Technology Industry Report shows in 2011, there were over 242-thousand technology jobs in the Detroit area, while Chicago had over 332-thousand and Minneapolis had 167-thousand. The report finds Detroit's tech industry is growing faster than Silicon Valley, and the jobs account for ten-percent of the employment in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
