LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says the same-sex couples who were able to say their vows on Saturday are legally married. However, the state isn't yet recognizing the unions due to the stay issued on the ruling by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The court will be hearing formal arguments on the lawsuit seeking to overturn Michigan's gay marriage ban. Snyder says the rights tied to the marriages are suspended until either the stay is lifted or the decision by U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman is upheld on appeal.
