Holland City Council Looks at Issues Tonight

HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - There will be a lot of talk but probably no action by the Holland City Council tonight.

There’ll be no action because council is holding its biweekly work-study session in the Second Floor Training Center, going over matters that will be voted on in future business meetings. Among the topics to be discussed is M-DOT’s improvement proposal for M-40 to address safety issues stemming from two high-profile fatal crashes in front of the Tulip City Truck Stop south of the I-196 junction; the city’s stormwater plan and draft ordinance; the program of late fees for rental registrations and inspections; the reorganization of the city’s Community and Neighborhood Services Department; and the latest involving the proposed new BPW power plant.

Before the session, council members will huddle behind closed doors in a special meeting to go over what is only described as “property acquisition” and “litigation.” The city is still attempting to reach a settlement with Jenifer French over a 2006 dismissal on alleged tax and voting fraud; she successfully had the discharge overturned through the courts, and is now seeking to be restored as City Clerk with full back pay and benefits.
