GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The second week of testimony in the double murder trial of a 52-year-old Zeeland man concludes at Ottawa County Circuit Court in Grand Haven today. The first defense witnesses took the stand yesterday as the attorney for Ryan Wyngarden attempted to plant the seeds of reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors. The defense contends that Gail and Rick Brink were gunned down at their Park Township home in 1987 because they were mistaken for a previous homeowner who had criminal ties to Detroit and was the target of an attempted hit. Attorney David Hall also had his client's daughter testify as to the character of Wyngarden, who prosecutors claim had shot his sister and her husband out of jealousy and to hide an incestuous relationship. Court observers say that the case should go to the jury sometime next week.
