GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - The first week of testimony in the Ryan Wyngarden double murder trial concluded on Friday.
As expected, defense attorneys attempted to discredit presumed prosecution star witness Pam Wyngarden in cross-examination. She admitted lying to investigators for 25 years following the 1987 shooting deaths of Gail and RIck Brink in their Park Township home, but maintained that she supported her husband's alibi due to fear of meeting the same fate, as well as attempting to hold her family together. Pam Wyngarden turned state's evidence 14 months ago, which led cold case prosecutors to arrest Ryan Wyngarden for slaying his sister and her husband. Also taking the stand on Friday was Jim Meacham, a childhood friend of the accused, and a former girlfriend of Ryan Wyngarden, Crystal Beelen.
The trial resumes before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing on Tuesday morning.
