GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - Both sides laid out their strategy in opening arguments as the double murder trial of Ryan Wyngarden got underway yesterday. Prosecutors will try to convince the jury that the 52-year-old Zeeland man shot his sister Gail Brink and her husband Rick in their Park Township home 26 years ago out of jealousy and to hide an incestuous relationship. Defense attorneys want to cast doubt on the reliability of prosecution witnesses, most notably Wyngarden’s wife, and claim that unknown assailants killed the couple in a case of mistaken identity for previous homeowners who had a criminal past. The trial is expected to last up to two weeks before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing.
