SAN DIEGO (WKZO) -- A San Diego woman who allegedly escaped a Michigan prison nearly four decades ago will remain behind bars. Judy Hayman's request to be released was denied by a judge Monday, which will give prosecutors more time to get a warrant from Michigan to send her back to that state.
Michigan officials say Hayman escaped from a state prison 37 years ago while serving time for larceny. She remained on the lam until last month, when authorities tracked her down in San Diego and arrested the now 60-year-old woman. Her lawyer claims Hayman went back to Michigan in 1982 to resolve the case and had her sentence suspended.
