ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) - Two high-profile criminal cases will be heard in separate Allegan County Circuit Courtrooms today.
Judge Margaret Bakker will hear initial motions in the "rearraignment" of Tobias Westenbroek. The 39-year-old Overisel Township man was bound over for trial in January on charges stemming from the stabbing of two persons, one of which was his estranged wife, in a Saugatuck Township residence. While the victims recovered from the slashing with a piece of broken glass in August of 2012, Westenbroek fled and was eventually captured in South Dakota about a year later.
Meanwhile, Judge Kevin Cronin has a sentencing slated for Jamie Ledesma II, the 24-year-old cousin of former Bloomingdale High boys' JV basketball coach Adrian Ledesma. The two men were accused of having sex with an unnamed 14-year-old student of the Van Buren County school in a field north of Baseline Road last June. Jamie Ledesma had pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors to testify against his cousin in the case; Adrian Ledesma was sacked when the allegations came to light.
