GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) -- Work continues on the fire-damaged Fifth Third Ballpark. The blaze that broke out on January 3rd destroyed the entire suite level on the first base side. The good news is that the home opener will still happen on April 8th. The slightly bad news is that the Whitecaps will be using the visitor’s dugout and clubhouse facilities on the third base side. The visitors will be a little inconvenienced as they will be housed in a temporary trailer in the parking lot. The new clubhouse and first base dugout are on schedule to be completed by May 1st, just in time for a six game home stand beginning May 5th.
