UNDATED (WHTC) -- The cause of death has been released for a Grandville High School teen. Mlive is reporting that the death of 17-year-old Ryan Fischer came as the result of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Fischer who was co-captain of Grandville High’s hockey team died in his sleep Friday morning. To the adage, “Truth is stranger than fiction,” Fischer and his teammates played a benefit game to raise funds for the Wes Leonard Heart Team foundation on February 14th. Leonard was 16-years-old when he died. He also had an enlarged heart but his death came as a result of ARVC. Ryan Fischer was to lead his teammates into the MHSAA semifinal ice hockey tournament this evening. They are playing with his parents blessing.
