Autopsy Shows Grandville Hockey Co-captain Died of an Enlarged Heart

UNDATED (WHTC) -- The cause of death has been released for a Grandville High School teen.  Mlive is reporting that the death of 17-year-old Ryan Fischer came as the result of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  Fischer who was co-captain of Grandville High’s hockey team died in his sleep Friday morning.  To the adage, “Truth is stranger than fiction,” Fischer and his teammates played a benefit game to raise funds for the Wes Leonard Heart Team foundation on February 14th.  Leonard was 16-years-old when he died.  He also had an enlarged heart but his death came as a result of ARVC.  Ryan Fischer was to lead his teammates into the MHSAA semifinal ice hockey tournament this evening.  They are playing with his parents blessing.
