LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder has legislation before him to remove all instances of of the words "retardation" and "retarded" from state laws. The state Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to approve the bills, and the House followed suit in the afternoon. Senator Rick Jones of Grand Ledge called the words "archaic" and compared them to using racial slurs. The bills came out of recommendations from the bipartisan Michigan Mental Health and Wellness Commission.
