HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -- Wednesday evening’s Holland City Council meeting began with a closed door session and ended with the same. An item on the agenda that was open to the public was a business plan recommending several items pertaining to Windmill Island Gardens. City Manager Ryan Cotton, who coordinated much of the fundraising for repairs to the DeZwaan Windmill, detailed the business plan as follows: new management via 5-year contract wiht a non-profit organization; an interpretive plan as well as a landscape plan; staff training for a superior guest experience and the hiring of a transitional staff member paid for by the city but hired by the selected non-profit group. The recommendation was approved by Council and will move forward as stated. Windmill Island Gardens opens for the season on April 19th.
