March Magic Begins on Monday; Bulls Score Sunday Win in New York


UNDATED (WHTC) - The state high school boys’ basketball tournament begins on Monday evening with first-round district action. At 6:40 PM, hear the West Ottawa at Holland game on 1450 WHTC and http://whtc.com/listen-live, or the Zeeland East at Jenison contest on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live. Other match ups include Hamilton versus Holland Christian at the Holland Civic Center, two games at Western Michigan Christian featuring Saugatuck versus Muskegon Heights and Fennville against North Muskegon, and Calvary hosts Freedom Christian at Holland Christian High.


NCAA Division III basketball tournament pairings will be announced on Monday. Hope College is assured of a women’s berth, as the undefeated Flying Dutch are the MIAA champions, but the Flying Dutchmen are hoping that a 20-8 record and a league regular season title will be enough to get an at-large spot after losing in the conference tournament title game on Saturday to Calvin.


Exhibition baseball on Sunday saw the Tigers play a scoreless draw with Atlanta, the Cubs fall to Kansas City, 5-3, and the White Sox beat Texas, 9-6. On Monday, the Tigers play St. Louis in Lakeland, with coverage on 1450 WHTC at 1 PM, the Cubs meet Milwaukee, and the White Sox battle Kansas City.


DJ Augustin led a balanced attack with 23 points as the Bulls won in New York on Sunday, 109-90. In the NBA on Monday evening, Chicago travels to Brooklyn and the Detroit Pistons are home to New York.
