Hope-Calvin MIAA Tournament Final DH in DeVos Fieldhouse Today


UNDATED (WHTC) – Hope College hosts Calvin in a pair of MIAA basketball tournament championship games at DeVos Fieldhouse today. The men’s matinee is at 2:40 PM on 92.7 The Van and http://927thevan.com/listen-live, while the women’s finale airs at 7:10 PM.

Grand Valley State’s regular season is over, but the Lakers will be monitoring results today to see about their post-season fate. The men have already clinched a GLIAC tournament berth, so they await a first-round opponent. The women need a Ferris State win over Saginaw Valley State in order to get into the league tournament, or their season ends at 14-12.

In state major college basketball today: Matinees include Illinois at Michigan State, Central Michigan at Ball State, Northern Illinois at Eastern Michigan, and Green Bay at Detroit; evening games have Minnesota at Michigan, Western Michigan at Toledo, and Oakland at Youngstown State.


In the final night of high school boys’ basketball regular season action: Zeeland West lost at Spring Lake, 62-56; Hamilton won at Kelloggsville, 87-39; and Fennville was victorious at Lawrence, 65-52. Two Lakeshore teams advanced in the MHSAA girls’ basketball tournament with district title wins last night. At Zeeland West, Holland Christian downed Hamilton 44-34, and will face Godwin Heights in a Class B regional semifinal at South Christian on Tuesday evening. In Jenison, West Ottawa fell to Wyoming, 48-46. At Fennville, Black River downed North Muskegon, 53-31, and will take on Gobles in White Pigeon in a Class C regional semifinal on Tuesday night.


Exhibition baseball yesterday saw the Tigers split their squad and double their misery, falling to the New York Yankees, 7-4, and to Philadelphia, 10-6; the Cubs lost to the Los Angeles Angels, 15-3; and the White Sox slipped against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-0. Today, the Tigers play Houston in Lakeland, with broadcast time on 1450 WHTC at 1 PM; the Cubs split their squad to face San Francisco and Arizona; and the White Sox battle Cleveland.


The Chicago Blackhawks welcome Pittsburgh to Soldier Field this evening in the finale of the NHL’s Stadium Series for the season.


Taj Gibson scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Bulls won in Dallas last night, 100-91. Chicago is home to New York at the United Center tomorrow afternoon.

The Detroit Pistons travel to Houston this evening.


Gleason Fournier’s marker in the eighth round of the shootout enabled the Griffins to outlast the Heat in Abbotsford last night, 4-3. The two teams have a rematch in suburban Vancouver this evening.
