GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) - There were some anxious moments for a couple of women in the open waters of Lake Michigan last evening.
The unnamed kayakers were about a quarter of a mile from the North Pier in Grand Haven just before 5 PM when their crafts capsized. Crews from the Coast Guard station nearby were alerted, and it took about 10 minutes from when word first came of their distress before the women were rescued safely and their kayaks were recovered. Both of the victims were apparently unhurt.
Coast Guard officials are using the occasion to remind all boaters in all types of vessels about wearing life jackets at all times on the water; these two kayakers had apparently failed to do this,
