HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) - Two overnight house fires blocks apart and about 90 minutes apart in Holland had the look of being related.
However, Public Safety investigators at this point don't believe that to be the case after crews were called to a home off of 14th Street near Harrison Avenue just after 11 PM, followed by a blaze at a residence off of 11th Street near Pine Avenue about 90 minutes later. The first structure was vacant, while an initial report of an elderly man inside of the second home was unsubstantiated. Three firefighters were treated for minor exhaustion at the scene.
No causes of either fire were initially determined. The first residence was unoccupied and was under renovation by the landlord, and investigators are considering the circumstances suspicious at this point, as both electricity and gas were shut off at the time. As for the second blaze, it is believed that, although the owner wasn't home, the premises was accessable to others, and public safety officials wish to speak with anyone who had access to, or was earlier inside, either house.
