UNDATED (WHTC) -- Traffic is backing up in the eastbound lanes of I-96 this evening. Ottawa County Dispatch was notified of an accident near M-6 just before 6 P.M. M-DOT is reporting that those eastbound lanes are closed as of 6:26 this afternoon. Google Maps shnows the location of the accident is near Gerald R. Ford International. Three people have been reported as injured and it's also believed that one person is pinned in a vehicle.
(UPDATE - MDOT reported that all lanes were opened as of 7:49 P.M. Authorities say that three vehicles iwere involved. One woman in a SUV was rear-ended in the crash and taken to the hospotil.
A Saturn, which was involved in the accident and is suspected to have caused the crash. The male passenger has life-threatening injuries and had to be extracted from the car. He was unconscious. The female driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Saturn's female driver was traveling fast in the right lane when she slammed on the brakes and lost control.
Reports at the scene say the passenger-side of the Saturn slammed into Jeep/SUV.
