UNDATED (WHTC) -- Saturday was a good day for Tigers hitting with Nick Castellanos going 3-for-4 with a solo homer as the Tigers downed the Red Sox 8-6 at Comerica Park. Eugenio Suarez also went deep for Detroit while Miguel Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Austin Jackson also had three hits for the Tigers, who have won two straight since a five-game skid. Max Scherzer struck out nine but allowed 11 hits and four runs in six-and-two-thirds innings for the win. The Tigers and Red Sox go at it again tonight at Comerica Park. Junior Lake clubbed two solo homers to power the Cubs past the Marlins 5-2 at Wrigley Field on Saturday. Emilio Bonifacio hit a two-run dinger for Chicago, which has won five straight. Jeff Samardzija grabbed his second win of the season with seven innings of two-run ball while racking up eight strike outs. The Cubs and Marlins face off at Wrigley Field this afternoon.
The White Sox fell to the Angels, 6-5 on Saturday. Adam Dunn hit a solo homer for Chicago, which has lost three of five. Alejandro De Aza knocked in two runs for the Sox. Jake Petricka took the loss. The White Sox and Angels finish their series this afternoon in Anaheim.
The West Michigan Whitecaps kept on rolling Saturday night, treating a season-high crowd of 8,545 to a 4-2 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Whitecaps won for the eighth time in their last 10 games and claimed their seventh straight home victory, improving to a season-high 10 games over .500. The Whitecaps, who have not lost at Fifth Third Ballpark since May 21, pulled to within 1.5 games of South Bend and increased their lead in the wild card chase to four games with just eight contests remaining in the first half. The ‘Caps take on South Bend again this afternoon.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is in Pennsylvania for the Pocono 400 on today. The drivers will run 160 laps at the “Tricky Triangle” this afternoon. After his win at Dover last week, Jimmie Johnson leads the Chase Grid Standings. Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick are next in the standings.
The NBA Finals with the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs continues this evening at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. The series shifts to South Beach for Game 3 Tuesday night.
It's a travel day for the Stanley Cup Finals after the Los Angeles Kings swept the first two games at home against the New York Rangers with overtime victories. The series now shifts to New York for Game 3 on Monday night.
