UNDATED (WHTC) - It promises to be a busy docket for Circuit Courts in Allegan and Grand Haven today.
A request for a new trial is slated this afternoon before Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing. The attorney for Ryan Wyngarden apparently made the petition after the 51-year-old Zeeland man was convicted in March of first-degree murder in the deaths of his sister, Gail Brink, and her husband Rick, at their Park Township home in 1987. Wyngarden was sentenced to mandatory life in prison without parole.
Sentencing is scheduled this afternoon in Allegan County Circuit Court for Julio Cesar Hernandez-Razo, a 32-year-old Holland man who pleaded guilty to raping a 15-year-old girl inside of an ice cream truck last July. Prosecutors claimed that the victim had worked for the accused, and was apparently drunk at the time of the assault. Hernandez-Razo could get up to life in prison from Judge Kevin Cronin.
Twin 17-year-old sisters from Jenison are scheduled for separate sentencing hearings in Ottawa County Circuit Court today, stemming from a burglary spree shortly after their birthdays in January. Madison Sutherlin and a juvenile boy were accused of breaking into unlocked vehicles parked outside churches and senior living centers. Morgan Sutherlin was accused of using ATM cards taken during those crimes.
