GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) - Ottawa County Assistant Prosecutor Lee Fisher, who successfully prosecuted the Ryan Wyngarden double murder trial in March, was appointed by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office to represent the people in the criminal trial of former Kent County Assistant Prosecutor Mark Vandermolen, accused of molesting a woman earlier this month. Vandermolen’s more than 10-year familiarity with the Kent County justice system also means that retired Battle Creek District Court Judge John Holmes will preside over a preliminary hearing slated for August 26. That show-cause hearing in Grand Rapids District Court was moved from Thursday because Vandermolen’s defense attorney is currently on vacation. Vandermolen could get up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
