UNDATED (WTVB) - For the first time in a long time, gasoline prices in Michigan are now below the national average. Trilby Lundberg’s bi-weekly national survey says the average is $3.58 after a nine cent drop in the last two weeks. AAA of Michigan says average prices here have dropped 14-cents in the last week to $3.49 a gallon.
Sue Hiltz at AAA and Lundberg both agree that refineries working at maximum capacity is the reason. Lundberg also says there is a chance prices will continue to drop.
Hiltz says that geopolitical tensions because the situation in the Ukraine and fighting in Gaza haven’t impacted oil production.
Gas prices across most of Southwest Michigan are generally below the state average as well.
