Restaurant owners fighting petition drive to put $10.10 minimum wage proposal on Michigan ballot

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - A group backed by the Michigan Restaurant Association will challenge whether there are enough valid signatures on the petitions to put a minimum wage question on the November ballot, when the State Board of Canvassers meet today. Restaurant operators may have the most to lose if the $10.10 proposal passes.  It would also require that tipped employees get that much base pay, about 3 to 4 times what they are paid now.

The group now claims there are 82 signatures that are duplicates, but they didn’t submit the complaint before the petitions were reviewed by the Michigan Elections Commission, which found there were enough valid signatures.
