WASHINGTON, D.C. (WHTC) - The 2014 Farm Bill is making it possible for Michigan fruit growers who suffered losses due to frosts and freezes in 2012 to get some much needed support. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow announced that signup for disaster assistance begins on July 22nd and continues through September 22nd, 2014.
In 2012, tart cherry growers were pretty much wiped out by the weather in 2012 and the sweet cherry and apple markets also suffered significant losses. Stabenow says this is a one-time disaster assistance program.
